Friday After Retreat

Today is Friday, October 20, and I am training home after a two day leadership retreat for Student Administrative Services. It was an intensive two days of reviewing goals and determining new goals for the upcoming year. Pretty exhaustive!

The retreat was held at the Royal Crown Hotel on Broadway at 49th street which is a very nice location. We were in a conference room on the 5th floor level of the hotel which provided a good view of Broadway. Next door was the Hershey's Chocolate Store and across Broadway was a new store called M&M's World that wasn't open yet. I didn't get a chance to look around as when the session ended I bolted for the subway to catch the next train.

I didn't deviate from my normal 5:15 wake-up even though I didn't have to be there until 9:00 each morning. I took advantage of the time to do some work in the conference center, after stopping at Starbucks for a latte, of course.

Well, we just passed Jersey Avenue train station and are on our way to Princeton. I had hoped to go watch Steve play football but the elements and traffic seem to be conspiring. I think I will simply head to 2K and join up with Vincent and Linda for Friday evening activities.

Have a great weekend!

Training on Thursday Afternoon

Well, it's been a couple of days since my last post. Too much to do, too little time to do it. I am riding the train home from work but rather than the 8:49 PM slow train to Trenton I am on the 3:01 PM express. Wouldn't I love to be able to take this one home each day!

I left early today to go watch Steve play a football game for his frehsman football game. I make a mental note to take a photo and try to upload it to this blog. I need to figure out how to add photos to my blog to make it more interesting.
Well, until I get a football photo I figured out how to upload the baseball one. I really like that photo anyhow.
Train just stopped at Newark Penn Station and now it is expressing directly to Princeton Junction. It is a beautiful day and I learned that there will be no baseball game tonight. I get to be a full-time spectator for football. I hope Steve gets to play some as the last game I was able to watch he didn't play a single down. Of course I had to call the A.D. to discuss the policies and practices with him. Kids get disinterested and quit if you don't play them at least a little.
Steve is really growing into a solid young man. He is very athletic and will be a powerhouse when he matures. I also think his inner aggresion will serve him well when he learns to channel it. Like many pitchers, he has a mean streak and will be sitting guys down when he brings it all together. I thought his anger would be well served with football in that he could hit people (and be hit). We'll see whether he stays with it beyond this fall.
Well, that's all for this entry. All the best for you!

Indian Summer Monday

Hello, all. Training to central New Jersey to coach a baseball game. The weather over the past several days has been fabulous, albeit a little on the warm side for October in the mid-atlantic states.

Speaking of states, I am in a state of depression over the recent Yankees early exit from the playoffs. Detroit was a fine and hungry team but they shouldn't have been able to match against the Yankees to better them three games in a row. I love the team and the players but I think it is time for an overhaul. Particularly in the pitching. There should be no reason for a reliever to come in fresh and not get batters out. No reason at all.

I am fine keeping the position players as I think they are the best in baseball. You have to do better than give up 5 runs per game in order to win the championship, no matter what league.

Anyhow, tonight is a fall ball game for the 13-15 year-olds. My group is pretty challenged with most of the hitting coming from numbers 2-5 in the line-up. They are a good group, though, and are on that learning curve for entering high school.

Wednesday Morning and Way Busy

It's Wednesday morning and I have a very busy schedule so I will keep this posting short. I took several photos using my cell phone the other night with the intention to try to post photos to this Blog. Please bear with me while I work out the kinks.

I did complete the first phase of Business Continuity Plans update for a deadline this afternoon. Whew. I wonder if anyone out there has had the occasion to make use of these. If so, weigh in please with your own story. It seems like such a chore. Of course I know the managerial explanation of why it has to be done.

OK, this is not nearly as compelling as needed to warrant your attention. I am signing out for now. I will try to be more inspiring in future posts. Enjoy the day!

Tales from the Train - October 2nd

I am writing this from the train bound from NYC to Princeton Junction, NJ, which is the inward bound leg of my daily commute. Not a bad commute in some terms. A little long when measured by two hours door to door. I have been doing the commute for a little less than a year and have learned to make the most of it.

I can certainly say that it allows me to read books more quickly than I otherwise would and so has changed my reading list.I recently completed Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and that is one I couldn't have attempted if I wasn't locked in this rolling box for two hours a day. Even so the 1100 pages took the better part of two weeks to finish.I have also read most of the top-selling business books. I may even start checking out library books with the thought I can actually finish them. Not such a bad thing this commute.

So this segment was called "Tales from the Train" and so should include a tale. Well, I am suffering a little mind fatigue so don't have anything jumping forward at the moment. I'll have to ponder the creation of a serialized story worthy of being posted on my blog while also being able to be created in 30 minute writing moments. For now, I will close to rest my mind and do that other thing that me and my fellow commuters do -- nap.

Night one, night all...

Monday hopefullness

I awoke this morning with a renewed sense of hopefullness that the week will bring exciting opportunities. Maybe getting to sleep earlier on Sunday night had something to do with that. That and not succombing to the normal tendency to flip channels and to feed insomnia.

I learned a new technique for dealing with a TV remote that doesn't power off the TV. I flip to channel #1 and then channel down from there. Below channel #1 is darkness. OK, there the TV is still consuming power so until I get a new TV or a new remote it will have to do.

Enjoy the day. Go create (different than procreate). DLE

October 1st

What a beautiful October 1st day. Sunshine, warm temps, and blue skies. I can't sit here flipping channels between Yankees baseball and Dallas Cowboys football any longer. Off to experience the outdoors...

First post to HFA Blog

This is the first post to my new Blog. I still don't have a clue as to what to put here. Maybe something will come to me
